My second, large scale project at Wold was the new Sunnyside and MacArthur school, also known as the ‘New 3-8 School’ in the Palatine office. Starting in the Spring of 2021, I was added to this project to assist with the Construction Document phase of the project. This was my first project located in a Illinois, under my new project manager Jessalyn Kelly, and continued working out of Minnesota. Starting this project under covid, it was easy to transition to a team out-of-state in a remote and work from home setting. The staffing for this project was very large, with a school clocking in at 162,000 square feet, there was approximately eight (8) architectural staff members under Robyn Mech who was Job Captaining the project. This was a great project to start understanding the Illinois office, being a much smaller office than the Minnesota office.

As a team, we separated tasks between exterior and interior items. I was on the interior team, focusing on floor plan tags, dimensions, details, as well as interior elevations, reflected ceiling plans, schedules, and finish plans. Being a new school building, on a large lot and little existing elements, much of the challenges came from the size of this building. I recall laying out these drawings and we ended up splitting the school into five (5) sections, ten (10) areas when including the upper level. To this date, this project is one of the largest architectural projects I worked on at Wold and in my career.
